Review:
I went with my wife to see this movie, and upon entering the theater, was immediately uncomfortable. There was only one other man in the selection was clearly feeling a little out of tune as well (although he seemed relieved to see me walking). I was expecting a teen sitcom, but the film was very different delivery. This film is more like a modern-time Little Women or a version of Dead Poets Society teenager. In other words, it is something I have not seen any sign of decades .... a smart drama aimed at teenagers. My reaction to seeing this film was similar to how I felt after watching the drunk. I know this is a strange comparison, but both were attentive, intelligent films aimed at an audience that is normally fed silly film. The elements of a good film are in full display here. Strong performance, safe driving trunk, terrible writing .... everything that makes a good movie. If you are a teenager or in your life, this is an absolute must to see the movie. If you do not, you will still have a good time.
